Works created by high school students from Stockton area high
schools will be on exhibit during the month of May at downtown Stocktons
Tidewater Art Center and Gallery.
With the aid of a grant from the Stockton Arts Commission, the gallery is able
this year to expand the juried show to all Stockton area high schools, both
private and public. Todays art teachers provide an exciting variety of
challenging art projects to students. The exhibit will reflect this with
categories including, but not limited to, printmaking, photography, oils,
acrylics, and sculpture.
The art show is the culmination of a multi-faceted program designed to mentor
young artists. Other elements included visitation by Tidewater artists to art
classrooms to discuss the business of art and to answer questions specific to
the student art show, and workshops held at the gallery to help student artists
learn to mat and frame their work.
The program offers the opportunity for one student to become a member artist at
the Tidewater and receive mentoring and support from fellow artists while
learning the complexities of the business of art.
A reception for students, friends and family will be hosted Friday, May 9, from
5-8 p.m
