VCA Saturday School: Portfolio Review

Class Description: Topics covered include how to approach a gallery, prepare for a studio visit, write on artist statement, refine your CV/resume, how to apply and present your art in public art competitions, and how to produce a clear set of images for your portfolio. Following the course participants may leave a copy of their current portfolio for review and comment by Moe and Willis.

Liv Moe: Liv Moe is the Executive Director of Verge Center for the Arts. Verge's exhibitions have been featured in Art in America, Vice, and Art Fag City's. In 2010 Moe contributed to curating and the development of the Doug Biggert exhibition "Hitchhikers" at White Columns in New York, and the exhibition titled, "Haute Romantics" was presented at the New Museum that same year. In 2011 Verge received a first place Arts Innovation Fund grant under Moe's leadership, and Moe herself received the Arts Executive of the Year award.
Moe is a visual artist and writer. Her work has been exhibited at the Richard L. Nelson Fine Art Collection, the Sonoma Art Center, and the Center for Contemporary Art: Sacramento, and Axis Gallery among others. In 2012 Moe's work will be featured in the Richard L. Nelson Exhibition, "Flatlanders on the Slant."
Shelly Willis: Shelly Willis directs the City and County of Sacramento's Art in Public Places Program, where she oversaw the development of the Sacramento International Airport public art program. Willis came to Sacramento after six years of managing the University of Minnesota public art program where she directed the development and installation of temporary and permanent public artworks on campus throughout the University of Minnesota system. She taught courses in public art in the Department of Urban Studies and the Department of Landscape Architecture. Willis is co-editor of the book, Public Art Practice, published by Routledge New York. She is the curator of Finding Time: Columbus Public Art 2012, a temporary public art project involving 56 artists and 15 major works of public art.
